HALO brace is indicated for stabilisation of the cervical spine after a surgery or an accident. It has a metal ring which is fixed into the skull and is connected to a vest fasted to the upper body. It positions the head and neck in correct alignment for good recovery and faster healing. A halo-vest is a brace that is used to immobilize and protect the cervical spine and neck after surgery or accident. The halo is a ring that surrounds the head and is attached by pins to the outer portion of the skull; however, some Halos are pinless but are only used in certain situations. A halo brace holds the head and neck in place so that the bones of the spine (vertebrae) can heal from an injury or surgery. Kids who have a halo brace can move around and do many of their regular activities while healing.
SOMI (Sternal Occipital Mandibular Immobiliser) brace controls all the movement of the neck effectively through a headband, occipital support, chin rest and chest straps. It is indicated for individuals with severe neck injuries or chronic degenrative disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Milwaukee brace is a spinal orthosis given for correction of spinal deformities; mainly scoliosis. It is indicated for individuals with flexible dual curvatures of spine. A neck support with a throat mould and two occipital pads are present to avoid a high pressure in the neck. Other parts of the brace are a polypropylene pelvic girdle, aluminium uprights, leather L-shaped thoracic pads and metal bars in the front and in the back to correct the deformity.
